Welcome to DVSwitch
Purpose
1) Allows “local” networking during an outage of the regional national/international network server.
2) Allows a local network operator to “blend” upstream feeds from different Networks (capital N on purpose). These Networks can’t get their act together and learn how to play nice with each other (everyone guilty as far as we are concerned). They may not like people doing this, but the solution is to grow up and work with each other, and not keep trying to force people to take sides.
3) Allows local segregation of localized traffic with more flexibility.
4) Allows experimentation with linking and how it’s done (part 97 specifies experimentation and advancement of the radio art are a core part of amateur radio).
Mission Statement/Position
WHEREAS the Networks continue to be largely islands and are not working together to create a unified network of Networks.
WHEREAS no firm reason has been given by any of the Networks why a *competent* local network operator cannot make this work effectively.
(US ONLY)
WHEREAS 47 CFR 97 (Amateur Radio Service) specifies that a core component of amateur radio is experimentation and advancement of the radio art [97.1(b)].
BE IT RESOLVED the core group of US amateur radio operators and experimenters organized around the DVSwitch project, and in the spirit of USA 47 CFR 97 and its intentions, support the *responsible* and *thoughtful* use of digital voice networking tools to create localized networks that will interconnect to the national/international Networks, and will support users of its tools in order to do this in the most effective and sustainable way possible.
Differnt DMR_Node_lists
Theo - PA3TEO
I am using dvswitch to connect to different DMR networks. This all works perfect, the only thing I can not figure out is how to switch to a different DMR_node_list
I see in /var/lib/mmdvm/ that there is a TGList_BM.txt and if I understand it right that is the list that is used also to push to you phone client. Is there a way to also download and use a TGIF TG list and let the program switch between them?

Apologies that I did not see the examples that are posted in the wikki, are there instructions for installing MMDVM bridge? I see something in pdf format, but using a screen-reader, it is difficult to read a pdf dockument, and see any kind of granular syntax: periods, commas, and capitalization etc. DO you have the installation instructions for MMDVM bridge in raw html format, so that I can cut, copy, and paste as needed? Thanks, Justin-ai5os.

The YSF reflector and talk group are mine both. I’d talked to the administrators of TGif previously, and they were ok with me doing this. Is there guidance in how to do this with MMDVMbridge?

FOlks,No, using the HTML client means you're going via Analog_Reflector, which means an unnecessary transcode cycle (and loss of audio quality across the bridge). First step is to check with TGIF to see if you're allowed to bridge with DVSwitch, and if so, whether there's other conditions. Assuming it's fine, you can do a high quality bridge between YSF and DMR with a single instance of MMDVM_Bridge. As for Brandmeister, I try and avoid it, and if I do use BM, I only use it as an ordinary DMR user. I'm more often found on VK-DMR (DMR+), FreeDMR and FreeSTAR. Brandmeister have very strict (and inconsistently enforced at times) bridging policies. First, you'll need to use something like HBLink3, because BM will require you to use an OpenBridge to bridge to their network. You may fall foul of BM's "rebridging" policy here - they're not keen on talkgroups being rebridged to other talkgroups on BM or other networks. However, when bridging to multiple networks, HBLink3 is a good idea anyway, as it simplifies things, and you can setup a local master for MMDVM_Bridge to bridge to. I use the FreeDMR port of HBLink3 to bridge a talkgroup on FreeDMR and FreeSTAR, and have a local master for MMDVM_Bridge to link in my YSF and NXDN reflectors. And yes, the admins of both networks are on board. :) Anyway, using MMDVM_Bridge to bridge YSF and DMR is straightforward. Enable both YSF and DMR, as well as the YSF Network and DMR Network sections. Point these to the YSF reflector and DMR master/talkgroup respectively. Finally, you'll need to edit DVSwitch.ini so that the DMR Rx port is the same as the YSF Tx port and vice-versa. This directs TLV traffic back to MMDVM_Bridge, so it can be passed on to the other network. -- 73 de Tony VK3JED/VK3IRL http://vkradio.com

Yeah that's a different issue. I use DVSwitch on D-STAR as the transcoding part part of a multimode reflector. No complaints about audio quality on D-STAR. I use a ThumbDV with AB to do the actual transcoding. As for users on my reflector, if they can be understood, I have no issues, but I can't guarantee someone won't make comments if someone does happen to have poor audio. I haven't tried the software vocoder lately, so I don't know what it sounds like. -- 73 de Tony VK3JED/VK3IRL http://vkradio.com

Bridging YSF to a DMR talk group?
Justin Mann
FOlks,
I used to have anxlx reflector xlx94, but everobyd else decided they want to go in a different direction, so now the thought is to bridge a ysf reflector, 75749 to a talk group on TGIF’s network, 89435, and eventually add Brandmeister. Would I use the dvswitch html client to make this happen? THanks, Justin

Re: Blocked DVS???
Jason - WY7JT
We should add the ability to change the DVS identifier on D-Star. Those reflectors allow AMBE identified users. Kind of funny, they'll allow you to use the ThumbDV (or other vocoder) with a computer or BlueDV on Android (usually overdriven a bit), but frown on DVSwitch Server where you're just doing the same thing. I monitor those on occasion with DVS, but I've never heard anyone use DVS without a vocoder. I would have to think it has to do with bridging. Perhaps just change the identifier to AMBE if an AMBE dongle is present in your DVS install? Jason - WY7JT

And so do I. But you've been blocked not because you were causing "problems", but because you were using DVS. Like I said, these people don't like apps and abuse of their power ...

Re: Blocked DVS???
I use a ThumbDV (has an AMBE chip).

Re: Blocked DVS???
Actually there are no issues. If you use DVS with a hardware vocoder (AMBE) or an external Ambe Server or the like, the audio quality is very good. The only problem is if you use a sofware vocoder. In such case the audio from the mic is overly saturated and distorted (unless you set the mic audio gain to 0.05). This gives an excuse to some narrow-minded "talibans" to demonize DVS or other applications. But only because they believe the only way to go is to use a "proper" radio. That's all. There is another thread where I talk about this.

Re: Blocked DVS???
I'm curious, what are the issues DVS causes with these reflectors? I
run REF023, which is also a DPLus reflector, and a popular VK hub. I don't want to block DVS (quite the opposite), but would like to know what the issues are and if necessary, whether there's a way to mitigate them. Only D-STAR I use with DVS is a bridge between D-STAR on XLX432 D with other modes. It's never given me any issues (once I worked out how to get the ThumbDV to work with AB). :) -- 73 de Tony VK3JED/VK3IRL http://vkradio.com

Blocked DVS???
"Your callsign has been logged on either REF001 or REF030 using the DVSwitch software. This software is experimental and has caused problems on the busy reflectors. As a result, the administrators of the reflector have blocked you on the reflector you were using it on.
Please do not use this software on Reflectors 001 and 030. Let me know when you stop using it and I will request you to be unblocked.
