Welcome to DVSwitch
Purpose
1) Allows “local” networking during an outage of the regional national/international network server.
2) Allows a local network operator to “blend” upstream feeds from different Networks (capital N on purpose). These Networks can’t get their act together and learn how to play nice with each other (everyone guilty as far as we are concerned). They may not like people doing this, but the solution is to grow up and work with each other, and not keep trying to force people to take sides.
3) Allows local segregation of localized traffic with more flexibility.
4) Allows experimentation with linking and how it’s done (part 97 specifies experimentation and advancement of the radio art are a core part of amateur radio).
Mission Statement/Position
WHEREAS the Networks continue to be largely islands and are not working together to create a unified network of Networks.
WHEREAS no firm reason has been given by any of the Networks why a *competent* local network operator cannot make this work effectively.
(US ONLY)
WHEREAS 47 CFR 97 (Amateur Radio Service) specifies that a core component of amateur radio is experimentation and advancement of the radio art [97.1(b)].
BE IT RESOLVED the core group of US amateur radio operators and experimenters organized around the DVSwitch project, and in the spirit of USA 47 CFR 97 and its intentions, support the *responsible* and *thoughtful* use of digital voice networking tools to create localized networks that will interconnect to the national/international Networks, and will support users of its tools in order to do this in the most effective and sustainable way possible.

Thanks Jeff,
We certainly plan you join you again next year with who knows what toys. You can have my share of fun! Steve

Updated DVSwitch repository available
I have made some changes to the DVSwitch repositories, to better align naming and distributions. The packages are:
1: Available for ARM, i386 and AMD64 2: ARM and i386 will run on Jessie and Stretch 3: AMD64 will run on Debian Stretch AMD64 and Ubuntu AMD64 3: All packages will be in the stretch repository The available packages are: dvswitch_base, Analog_Bridge, md380-emu, MMDVM_Bridge, P25Gateway, P25Parrot. The metapackages are named dvswitch and quantar. dvswitch contains: dvswitch_base, Analog_Bridge, md380-emu and MMDVM_Bridge quantar contains: dvswitch_base, MMDVM_Bridge, Quantar_Bridge P25Gateway, P25Parrot After installing the repository, you can install either dvswitch or quantar or both I hope this make sense and will make things easier for people. To install the repository: As root cd /tmp wget http://dvswitch.org/install-dvswitch-repo chmod +x install-dvswitch-repo ./install-dvswitch-repo apt-get update 73, Steve N4IRS

James, I installed the files via the repo on one my Ubuntu x64 systems w/ no issues. The software runs great.

Steve, Like you, I prefer using a Debian based system, I just wanted to point out it can be done as long as someone makes sure they install any dependancies. I’ve done the installs now on arm/x64 based systems on Debian Stretch, Raspbian, Ubuntu, & Arch Linux now. All work great. Once again, you guys have out done yourselves. 😊 Thanks again & 73 de K4SQI!

The .debs are simply a easy way to install the programs, config files and data files. I will make the same files available in a zip for people to place where they want them. I expect any Debian based distribution will have no problem. Such as Armbian. (one of my favorites) On 5/9/2018 12:20 PM, Steven Blackford wrote:

While not supported & it could change in the future, I have successfully manually converted the *deb files and manually installed them on other “arch” based PI based allstar nodes. While it works, I’d highly suggest using something Stretch/Raspbian based with the repo’s. The install is painless & prevents you from possibly missing something.

Not necessarily. I have not tested on other ARM distributions yet. My board "collection" is down right now for relocation. What distribution are you interested in running? On 5/9/2018 12:12 PM, James Riley kb9tzq wrote:

Re: New to this group - Interested in DMR to analog linking.
George Zafiropoulos
Hi John and Steve, I have no specific hardware in mind. That is what I want to learn from you guys. What would be the best hardware and/or software to make this work. At a bare minimum what we want to do is have a port on our analog control system plug into some sort of hardware (AllStar node ?) that connects to the internet. Then somewhere in the cloud or on a computer in our own site have some software that bridges from that AllStar node to our Talk Group 31075. If we can just do that, it would be great. Anything beyond that, like the ability to dyanmically point the analog port device to another talk gorup would be icing on the cake. To so this, what is the best approach? We have access to data centers with high speed connections and lots of smart people who know their way around linux, networking and all that. We just don't want to reinvent the wheel. What would you guys recommend? Thanks! George KJ6VU Bay-Net www.bay-net.org

Eight days 'til Dayton
Jeff DePolo WN3A <jeff@...>
Our group will be at Dayton again this year, including the following
organizations and their representatives: S-COM, LLC - Bob Schmid WA9FBO and Dave Maciorowski WA1JHK Repeater-Builder - Scott Zimmerman N3XCC and Kevin Custer W3KKC Masters Communications - Kevin Custer W3KKC AllStarLink, Inc. - Dave, Kevin, and I Steve N4IRS and Mike N4IRR Zingman are taking a break from Dayton this year. Based on how much work they've put into multiple projects the past few years, they deserve a break (and a round of applause). We will be in the same cluster of ten spaces in the race track infield as last year: 7727 is the easiest space number to remember. Hope to see some of you there. --- Jeff WN3A

Re: New to this group - Interested in DMR to analog linking.
That is correct - the PiDV is no longer in production. The UDRC-II is the radio interface, including control lines and audio. The ThumbDV is the Vocoder. They can both be used with the RPi 2/3 at the same time.

Re: DMR-MARC changes
Good to hear since I still have connections to DMR-MARC. I'm
actually a neutral party since I see the flaws in both systems and
have no compunction about pointing them out.

Maybe we are just interpreting that sentence differently :) Some may say you are referring to the organization is in effect no longer connecting repeaters. Some will say you are referring to a CSV database. I guess I thought you meant the first one. Anyhow, we've cleared it up. Yes, the digital-ham site is hosting the CSV files now. And, yes, DMR-MARC/DMRPlus USA/Canada/Australia/New Zealand and Phoenix UK are still registering new repeaters on the network.

Actually, my diagram is accurate. HB_Bridge is the program. Like all of the HBLink programs, HB_Bridge sub-classses hblink.py...and my question is accurate, too ;-) The main stack is in HBLink. If HBLink can talk to XLX, then HB_Bridge will talk, too. And it seems the answer to that question is : NO. I found a thread last october ("Current status DMRlink, HBlink DVSwitch") about a problem with XLX not returning the Repeater ID after the RPTACK. The recommended solution was to modify the XLX code so that it sends that Repeater ID. I don't know if this has been done or not. Does anybody have news about this HBLink -> XLX problem ? 73 de TK1BI

The UDRC-II is not a vocoder. It is a radio interface. As far as I
know, NW Digital not longet makes the PiDV.
