Welcome to DVSwitch
Purpose
1) Allows “local” networking during an outage of the regional national/international network server.
2) Allows a local network operator to “blend” upstream feeds from different Networks (capital N on purpose). These Networks can’t get their act together and learn how to play nice with each other (everyone guilty as far as we are concerned). They may not like people doing this, but the solution is to grow up and work with each other, and not keep trying to force people to take sides.
3) Allows local segregation of localized traffic with more flexibility.
4) Allows experimentation with linking and how it’s done (part 97 specifies experimentation and advancement of the radio art are a core part of amateur radio).
Mission Statement/Position
WHEREAS the Networks continue to be largely islands and are not working together to create a unified network of Networks.
WHEREAS no firm reason has been given by any of the Networks why a *competent* local network operator cannot make this work effectively.

WHEREAS 47 CFR 97 (Amateur Radio Service) specifies that a core component of amateur radio is experimentation and advancement of the radio art [97.1(b)].
BE IT RESOLVED the core group of US amateur radio operators and experimenters organized around the DVSwitch project, and in the spirit of USA 47 CFR 97 and its intentions, support the *responsible* and *thoughtful* use of digital voice networking tools to create localized networks that will interconnect to the national/international Networks, and will support users of its tools in order to do this in the most effective and sustainable way possible.
Now What?

This may sound a bit dumb, but now that I have my AllStar/DMR bridge up and working, I'm having trouble seeing the advantage of running the bridge. Now, as originally configured, I am using my unregistered, personal DMR talk group that no one other than me can use. I link one of my Allstar nodes to the my 45176/1999 node and can use my DMR radio tuned to the TG associated to my BM repeater or my analog radio tuned to my Allstar simplex frequency and key-up my DMR radio. There is a lag between the two. I have had a remote Allstar node link up to the 45176 node and I could use either radio to qso with this remote node, but I fail to see the advantage to do this. If I could use different TG's without configuring the initial set-up it would be great, but I'm not aware of being able to do that in conjunction with the same BM repeater and TG selected on my DMR radio. I'm sure I just don't have the insight at my ripe old age to see all the things that I'm missing out on using the DMR bridge, so please... someone enlighten me. Cant be done. No private calls on DV4mini. Extended routing was made by BM so the dv4mini when it came out would work with reflectors . Sorry There are alot of better devices out there now on the market

Dongle mode with md380-emu

Hello folks !
Just getting used to the homebrew DV tools... came across the DVswitch repo and looks amazing work. I was experimenting with MMDVM Bridge and Analog Bridge (the new docs are really helpful) and was trying to listen to the BM network using USB sound card on a RasPi3. I had moderate success in hearing the audio stream, although the decoding was not at all clear. I had to use OSSPD to emulate /dev/dsp, and not quite sure whether the improper decode was due to issues in emulation. I tried to use Portaudio, but couldn't figure out how to specify the device or interface. Kindly let us know how to specify that. Also I read that there are two software decoders based on MD380-emu and OP25 decoder. How do I choose between them so as to evaluate performance ? Last but not least, is the MD-380 emulator server compatible with AMBEServer (hardware dongle) protocol ? From my prelim tests, it doesn't seem so. Is it possible to make it compatible or do some sort of bridging, so that we can experiment with BlueDV as well for decoding DV streams? This may not be the right place so Steve feel free to censor me, but I figured since it deals indirectly with the bridge I would ask.
Does anyone know if I can setup private calling on the DV4Mini? Basically can I make a call to a radio id? I don’t know if the extended routing will handle it. I figured I would ask before ei Beat my head even ore bloody on the wall then it already is.

Well if it ain't broke, you never learn anything. I have but one more issue that kept me up the night. Running on BM TG's, I found if I connect to a quite group (no activity) everything is just fine. As soon as I switch to a goup with activity, dvswitch/the virtual private node beginds to transmit on its own on the network, holding it up. The mmdvm bridge /L5 data is the only log file I see that shows something that I am trying yet to understand. But I can see the activity from BM's self care board. Get plenty of hate mail from it LOL. This section of the log shows where I switched TG's twice I think. It seems to be generated perhaps/guessing? by the public connected node but I have striped it away as much as I can of anything in telemetry but perhaps I'm missing something. But I am wondering if there is a direct way to know when dvswitch is txing on the dmr side. I feel a little lost as I have no way of knowing when I am creating problems. Jeff, I thank you for your comments. Very well taken. I came into this project with 0 AllStar knowledge, I got my Node number over on Memorial Day Weekend, so your input is very valuable to me. The Echolink integration I took upon it as a personal challenge, in order to use the DVSwitch tools to convert one audio format to another, and since I had no AllStar Node or infrastructure I could access, the Echolink world was the only system I knew or used for analog FM. So as I read on the AllStar Wiki and the documentation I am more inclined to use the AllStar system and just leave Echolink as an option. Have a great day.

I found it was tx-ing the channel.(got some hate mail) Scope back trough the docs and files, found a port mismatch. But, after that, has such terrible audio on rx, not manageable. It sounds like a port conflict to me but I can't find it. I had check the tx audio with a friend and herd it back through his phone. Perfect. So... out of hair on this one for 8 hours or more ! But it sounds really like something else in my network is causing the issue. ??? Problem with Allstar to DMR Gateway.

I have built a DMR to Allstar gateway on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ using information from your group, and KV4S. I can key up my talkgroup on my dmr radio and hear it on the phone portal. I cannot get the Phone portal to transmit to the DMR. I see the status change on the Brandmister Dashboard, but it has no audio on the hoseline nor does it key the DMR Repeater. Any Ideas?
