Welcome to DVSwitch
Purpose
1) Allows “local” networking during an outage of the regional national/international network server.
2) Allows a local network operator to “blend” upstream feeds from different Networks (capital N on purpose). These Networks can’t get their act together and learn how to play nice with each other (everyone guilty as far as we are concerned). They may not like people doing this, but the solution is to grow up and work with each other, and not keep trying to force people to take sides.
3) Allows local segregation of localized traffic with more flexibility.
4) Allows experimentation with linking and how it’s done (part 97 specifies experimentation and advancement of the radio art are a core part of amateur radio).
Mission Statement/Position
WHEREAS the Networks continue to be largely islands and are not working together to create a unified network of Networks.
WHEREAS no firm reason has been given by any of the Networks why a *competent* local network operator cannot make this work effectively.
(US ONLY)
WHEREAS 47 CFR 97 (Amateur Radio Service) specifies that a core component of amateur radio is experimentation and advancement of the radio art [97.1(b)].
BE IT RESOLVED the core group of US amateur radio operators and experimenters organized around the DVSwitch project, and in the spirit of USA 47 CFR 97 and its intentions, support the *responsible* and *thoughtful* use of digital voice networking tools to create localized networks that will interconnect to the national/international Networks, and will support users of its tools in order to do this in the most effective and sustainable way possible.
Re: DMR vs DSTAR
In my case, I run ambed on a server at home, separate from my XLX server that's in a data center. The ambed service (included with xlxd) runs the transcoding for D-Star <-> DMR for the XLX server. In order to achieve transcoding, some DV3000 dongles are attached to the ambed server. This setup is a bit more advanced/customized, since I have services running on separate servers. Also, we're talking more along the lines of xlxd now, which is out of scope for the DVSwitch group. Steve KC1AWV

I setup a P25Reflector-Dashboard the other day. I installed the YSFReflector-Dashboard and then updated the install with the files on N4IRS's P25Reflector-Dashbord repo. I've been running it for a couple days. Seems to be working fine. Feel free to contact me off the list if you're having specific issues.

OK Steve, now all the connections seems to work, but, no audio pass from dstar to dmr .... the transmission is MUTE. Maybe I need some AMBE codec to install ?

Re: DMR vs DSTAR
The connection between MMDVM_Bridge to DMRGateway here is like this: --- MMDVM_Bridge.ini [DMR Network] Enable=1 Address=127.0.0.1 Port=62031 Jitter=360 Local=62032 Password=passw0rd Slot1=1 Slot2=1 Debug=0 --- DMRGateway.ini [General] Timeout=10 # RFTimeout=10 # NetTimeout=7 RptAddress=127.0.0.1 RptPort=62032 LocalAddress=127.0.0.1 LocalPort=62031 RuleTrace=0 Daemon=0 Debug=0 I assume you're running both programs on the same machine, so all addresses will be loopback. how to "Set MMDVM_Bridge to send its audio to DMRGateway" ? tnx

Re: DMR vs DSTAR
Sorry, I forgot to mention that also set the Startup line for the XLX Reflector you are connecting to, In my case I want to connect to XLX740, so it's set to Startup=740. Then, simply change the module line to the module you want to connect to.

Re: DMR vs DSTAR
If you are connecting to XLX, I used DMRGateway as well as MMDVM_Bridge. In DMRGateway.ini, you can set the XLX Network stanza similar to this: [XLX Network] Enabled=1 File=/var/lib/mmdvm/XLXHosts.txt Port=62030 Password=passw0rd ReloadTime=60 Slot=2 TG=6 Base=64000 Startup=740 Relink=60 Debug=0 Id= UserControl=1 Module=B Of course, use your own DMR ID on the Id= line. Set MMDVM_Bridge to send its audio to DMRGateway. Steve KC1AWV

Hi,
I want to bridge DMR to an XLX module, I understand that I can use the DVSwitch tools and MMDVM_Bridge. I have to create 2 instances of MMDVM_Bridge but I don't understand how connect to a specific module of XLX one instance of MMDVM_Bridge. Anyone ca help me to better understand? thank's 73 de IT9CDU

Re: ASL to DSTAR Documentation?
#best_practices
I recall reading that the DSTAR emulation is not very good and use of hardware is recommended in the case of DSTAR. You can still run your bridge in the cloud, but you will need some hardware running the AMBE daemon with one of the dongle type devices. We do that for XLX725, for example - it seems to be pretty reliable, at least with the services we use....

ASL to DSTAR Documentation?
#best_practices
ng1pbill@...
I am new to the group. I have searched high and low and have not been able to find any good setup documents to setup a bridge from ASL to DSTAR. Looking at the posts I see this can all be done now with MMDVM_Bridge and Audio_Bridge.
Today I have setup a ASL to DMR bridge on a raspberryPI and that is working great. I followed this documentation to get that working: https://kv4s.com/2018/05/23/hosting-an-allstar-node-and-an-allstardmr-bridge-in-the-cloud/ I would also like to setup a ASL to DSTAR bridge on the same raspberryPI and have it assigned to a second ASL node number. Any documentation on how to do this? Thank you! Bill NG1P Hamshack Hotline 4600 Allstar 49581, 49647 and 49788 (BM TG3167)

OH I get it. When you transmit the TG into the system the P25hosts file tells the gateway were to send it on the network and that “receiving” gateway is what then handles the data on that end….DOH! Sorry…sometimes I need to be hit in the head with a rock. Thanks for being patient with me….

When P25Gateway receives traffic from MMDVMHost it sends the traffic to the IP (or FQDN) and port defined in the gateway host file.

Steve,
Ah ok that makes sense. I see what you are saying there. Then maybe I com confused on how the P25 Reflector system Works. One of the other groups I am with has t a talkgroup setup on P25 and has the reflector setup. How are things being directed to that reflector?

The P25Reflector Dasboard simply "watches" the P25Reflector log and parses the log file into a pretty web page. Pay attention to the reflector log.

Jeff,

OK. Here is what I think you are looking for. The Reflector does not have anything to do with the TG number. It simply reflects any data sent to it by P25Gateway on the UDP port number. This is from P25Hosts.txt used by the gateway: # North America, 1020x 10200 dvswitch.org 41000 10201 dvswitch.org 41010 When P25Gateway receives traffic from MMDVMHost (for a HS or MMDVM Reepater) or from MMDVM_Bridge (Quantar or bridge) it sends the traffic to the IP (or FQDN) and port defined in the file. If you sent TG 12345 to dvswitch.org on port number 41000 it would reflect that TG to every other Gateway connected. Hope this helps. Steve N4IRS

Hi Steve,
I’m trying to install from scratch. I cloned the github code and kind of followed the same steps as YSF Reflector and compiled the code and it seems to run. But I am still trying to figure out how to set the talkgroup (I want to use a unique one) and connect it to MMDVM Brdige eventually but I want to get the reflector working first and then go there. I’ve tried also installing P25 Relfector dashboard and it doesn’t show what I expect even after modifying the config.php file so that makes me think that the reflecotor is not working right.

Help with link system
Kevin Halton
I am looking for some assistance with my bridge. It was put together by the late K4SQI Steve. He was in his words the system maintenance man :) Just days prior to his passing he made some changes to the system. He was dropping connections off of BM. I think I see where the changes were made but when I undo what I think it is I loose the analog to digital connection. I am afraid if I touch to much I will screw something up and will not get it back working.
Thanks in advance.
