Re: Starting MMDVM_Bridge #mmdvm_bridge

the error "bash: ./MMDVM_Bridge: Is a directory" should be a good clue.  This tells you that you are trying to run a directory as an application.  So you need to go into the actual directory where the binary MMDVM_Bridge exists and run it from there, or supply the full path to the binary and to the ini file...

Or, if the binary is in your PATH somewhere you don't need the ./ (this is the most likely case) but will need to provide the full path to the ini unless it's in your CWD...

Depending on where you installed MMDVM_Bridge you should see the executable and the .ini file. If you don't you can not run ./MMDVM_Bridge. The ./ tells Linux, run the program named MMDVM_Bridge in the current directory.

First do this: cd MMDVM_Bridge

Then ./MMDVM_Bridge MMDVM_Bridge.ini

You're outside the directory the executable is in. Like trying to start a car from outside the driver's door ;)

Re: Just Moved server from Digital Ocean and now server won't run

That is the best answer you could provide Steve. The tricks in this kind of linux server is just keep the file you modified for the software you need. In a case like the DVswitch suite of software. Installing from a clean state then copy the ini files, restart the OS to confirm good starting as wished and you are in business.

The hard part is configuring the software.

Moving executables from one system to another may not always work. Differences in system architecture, file system layout, or even hardware can cause significant issues. If you're moving your install from one system to another, the only files you will need to keep tabs on are the configuration files. Install everything new, then change or overwrite the configurations from backup. Make sure the file paths in your old configuration are available in the new install. I saw you getting hung up on the log file location for YSFReflector earlier. You were trying to create a folder that didn't exist, but then looking at your configuration file, it was trying to write the logs to a completely different location. It's almost like you were following two different sets of instructions (such as reading the directions on G4KLX's github to install YSFReflector, while using a configuration file from another location) which doesn't help the situation at all. Find one set of instructions and stick with it! :)

If you can't run or don't have a simple command like mkdir, your OS is buggered up beyond recognition. It's one of the core utilities, and probably one of the most common commands used beside ls. I'd suggest wiping and reinstalling your server, trying to recover from this point will be tedious.

Save your .ini files for all the programs you wish to run on a different computer and start over using some of the wiki articles.

Re: Just Moved server from Digital Ocean and now server won't run

Steve KC1AWV

It looks to me that you're having procedural problems, and not issues with the programs themselves. You've got folders missing apparently. Here's the important part of what you've sent over:

chown: cannot access '/var/log/YSFReflector': No such file or directory

Make sure the directory exists first before changing owner. mkdir -p /var/log/YSFReflector

Also, it looks like you're already logged in as root, so no need to use sudo on those commands.

While I'm sure nobody here really minds providing help where it's needed, we're getting into support of an operating system, and programs that are not specifically part of DVSwitch. Remember, the support for the DVSwitch programs that this group is intended for are the ones that are maintained in the DVSwitch github repo. All other support is a courtesy.

I recovered uname -r with sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-headers-`uname -r`

Now it shows 4.15.0-15 generic for uname-r

What does it say when you type   '  uname -r   ' from cmd line ?

Not familiar with Dig Oc but

Did you use one of their stock images ?  or - Can/did you load your own iso ?

oops  meant DVSwitch,
The uname -r are the same on both VPS DO and Hostwinds.

I'll try a reinstall of YSF reflector

What is a "fresh image of DWswitch" ?

Hi Mike

I'm running Ubintu 18.04 on both Digital Ocean and Hostwinds VPS, Wanting to leave Dig O, I've moved all of the files from Dig O with rsync and setup the files the same on both instances. The config files are the same only moved to the new location.
The firewall rules are identical on both vps sites. , everything seems to be identical, I've made the changes on the ysf registry to reflect the new ip address and even turned off the droplet on dig Ocean to not create a conflict between the 2 servers, but still not able to get ysf reflector to run on dvswitch from the new server, I've contacted support at hostwinds and they tell me it's nothing to do with the my iso.and firewall setup and traffic should be passed.
Not sure what I'm missing here ? But I'm sure if must be something simple??
Since the instance on digital Ocean still works when I turn it back on???

Still comparing files , but it was almost  a copy and paste to the new vps. I even downloaded a new fresh image of DWswitch and installed the working files to the new install and kept the original as a backup?? Neither will work!

Still open for suggestions or another set of eyes to see what's been missed or changed.

Thanks

uname <space> -r   http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bionic/man2/uname.2.html

Compare the 2 servers.
