Welcome to DVSwitch
Purpose
1) Allows “local” networking during an outage of the regional national/international network server.
2) Allows a local network operator to “blend” upstream feeds from different Networks (capital N on purpose). These Networks can’t get their act together and learn how to play nice with each other (everyone guilty as far as we are concerned). They may not like people doing this, but the solution is to grow up and work with each other, and not keep trying to force people to take sides.
3) Allows local segregation of localized traffic with more flexibility.
4) Allows experimentation with linking and how it’s done (part 97 specifies experimentation and advancement of the radio art are a core part of amateur radio).
Mission Statement/Position
WHEREAS the Networks continue to be largely islands and are not working together to create a unified network of Networks.
WHEREAS no firm reason has been given by any of the Networks why a *competent* local network operator cannot make this work effectively.
(US ONLY)
WHEREAS 47 CFR 97 (Amateur Radio Service) specifies that a core component of amateur radio is experimentation and advancement of the radio art [97.1(b)].
BE IT RESOLVED the core group of US amateur radio operators and experimenters organized around the DVSwitch project, and in the spirit of USA 47 CFR 97 and its intentions, support the *responsible* and *thoughtful* use of digital voice networking tools to create localized networks that will interconnect to the national/international Networks, and will support users of its tools in order to do this in the most effective and sustainable way possible.
Re: new inquiry about the hb link program
Kenneth, Look at HB Link as a "Virtual Repeater" meaning you have one access point with two slots. So one group could be on time slot 1 on talk group 100 and another group could be on slot 2 on talk group 200 and both work through the system at the same time. Keep in mind, each user (especially on Slot1) needs a device like their hotspot or repeater to be capable of using both slots for this scenario to work. So, in theory, your idea will work with HBLink... You have to make sure everyone has the proper equipment. Another option is setting up more than one Master and then you can do other things but I think for what you are trying to do the above scenario would work. I hope that makes sense. 73, Doug W4DBG

new inquiry about the hb link program
Kenneth Son
Greetings.
I am wanting to set up a small dmr network for just a few friends and myself and want to use the hblink program on a remote server. Eventually there will be about 10 people logging into this with hotspots. I don't know much about HBlink but I was told it was a mini dmr bridge so I understand that just like other dmr networks, my HBlink can have several users and small groups can use different talkgroups at the same time. Some time later I heard from a different source that only one talkgroup could be active at one time on HBlink. I don't know whitch to believe. In the end, I am looking for a software package that hotspots can connect to and have more than one talkgroup being used at the same time. If hb link is used I would use it as a stand alone server and I would not be linking to other networks. It would be just a private place for myself and other friends to do testing and play dmr. Thank you for any help I can get. Pardin the bad spelling I am on a schedule and I am typing in a hurry. Kenneth kk4ql.

Re: XLX <--> TGIF
Dan K2IE
Asked and answered...
So I had a hunch after looking at some log messages...DMRGateway would not rewrite TG 6 as needed when TGIF was defined as DMR Network 3. When I renamed it to DMR Network 1, rewriting worked just fine. Working... So the XLX <--> BM works for XLX <--> TGIF also, but make sure that TGIF is DMR Network 1. You can delete the unneeded network stanzas so avoid naming conflict. 73

XLX <--> TGIF
Dan K2IE
I'm seeking to bridge an XLX module to a TGIF TG. I tried to model on the formula published for XLX <--> DMRGateway <--> MMDVM_Bridge <--> MMDVM_Bridge <--> DMRGateway <--> BM but things break down at the TGIF DMRGateway module. I turned on a rules trace and it seems that any attempt I make to rewrite TG 6 to my TGIF TG fail because the rule is not matched.
Is anyone doing this and, if so, can you provide the DMR Network stanza used for the TGIF side of things? Particularly the rewrites if you have it working... 73, Dan

Re: BM to XLX via MMDVM_Bridge - Doc version 2.0
That's a good question, and one that I will have to test tonight.

Wouldn't I need DMRGateway for the TG rewrite, or is that possible with MB? If it is, I didn't see a directive for that in the INI file.

I have already done that, but as others have stated, that might take a while.

DMRGateway still exists. It's a separate project outside DVSwitch. I need to make a new document, now that MB has been updated and issues have been fixed. I'll work on it tonight. Steve KC1AWV

If you have an XLX Reflector that has Transcoder Hardware just ask Brandmeister for an Interlink.

XLX TO MB TO MB TO BM
OR XLX TO DMRGATEWAY TO MB TO MB TO BM Must use latest binary for MB Look back a few messages regarding connecting ysf reflectors . On how to connect two MB together. Use Dmr ports instead of ysf.

Re: BM to XLX via MMDVM_Bridge - Doc version 2.0

I'm a bit confused here.
I have set up XLXD for DSTAR, and I want to bridge this to a Brandmeister talk group. I tried doing this just with ambed, XLXD and MMDVM_Bridge with a static Brandmeister talk group set up in the dashboard. I saw activity from MMDVM_Bridge show up on the console from the talk group, but it never made it to the reflector. I think I broke something there. Then I found this guide. However, DMRGateway doesn't seem to be in DVSwitch anymore, unless I'm missing something obvious, which is entirely possible. I found a post from November 2018 stating that DMRGateway no longer exists, yet the first draft of this doc was written in February 2019. So, what exactly is the state of DMRGateway?

Re: DSTAR to DMR, getting started

Contact a brandmeister server host admin directly. I don't think they even look at the support page requests anymore, I had one in for months and finally got it resolved when I contacted Corey N3FE. Somehow when I put my ticket on the US support website, they said it ended up on the UK ticket system.

Re: DSTAR to DMR, getting started
You need to open a helpdesk ticket with Brandmeister support. You have to give them the requested information, like TG, Module, IP Address and such. Be patient, my interlink request is still waiting for approval since February. Steve KC1AWV

Re: DSTAR to DMR, getting started
Patrick Perdue
I'm trying to figure out how this works... Does this require someone at Brandmeister to configure an interlink once the XLX reflector is up and running? The page found here isn't particularly clear about this, at least to me. https://wiki.brandmeister.network/index.php/XLX Meanwhile, I have successfully gotten
MMDVM_Bridge connected to Brandmeister, though I have yet to
configure a static talk group on the Brandmeister dashboard for
the "hotspot."
That should get DMR audio to DSTAR, but
how does audio go the other way?

Thanks. That is a typical problem I have, over engineering things. I’ll try this.

This is how I would do it:
Brandmeister TG <-> MMDVM_Bridge <-> XLX <-> ambed

Re: DSTAR to DMR, getting started
If you're transcoding on XLX already, you can use MB as a client to connect to Brandmeister. You don't need to go from DStar to Analog to Analog to DMR, you're over engineering the effort.
