Welcome to DVSwitch
Purpose
1) Allows “local” networking during an outage of the regional national/international network server.
2) Allows a local network operator to “blend” upstream feeds from different Networks (capital N on purpose). These Networks can’t get their act together and learn how to play nice with each other (everyone guilty as far as we are concerned). They may not like people doing this, but the solution is to grow up and work with each other, and not keep trying to force people to take sides.
3) Allows local segregation of localized traffic with more flexibility.
4) Allows experimentation with linking and how it’s done (part 97 specifies experimentation and advancement of the radio art are a core part of amateur radio).
Mission Statement/Position
WHEREAS the Networks continue to be largely islands and are not working together to create a unified network of Networks.
WHEREAS no firm reason has been given by any of the Networks why a *competent* local network operator cannot make this work effectively.
(US ONLY)
WHEREAS 47 CFR 97 (Amateur Radio Service) specifies that a core component of amateur radio is experimentation and advancement of the radio art [97.1(b)].
BE IT RESOLVED the core group of US amateur radio operators and experimenters organized around the DVSwitch project, and in the spirit of USA 47 CFR 97 and its intentions, support the *responsible* and *thoughtful* use of digital voice networking tools to create localized networks that will interconnect to the national/international Networks, and will support users of its tools in order to do this in the most effective and sustainable way possible.
Re: DStar on DV Switch Mobile
Yes that's how I did it. I put the xlx server in the cloud and run the ambe server locally. Seems to work correctly most of the tme. I dont get much traffic

Re: DStar on DV Switch Mobile
“ I would look at setting up ambeserver and analog_bridge locally on a pi and then point the ip address and ports from your VPS to the local analog_bridge setup.“ Got that working. Hoped to get working with DVSwitch cloud server. Think I will move on to other projects.

YEah I have heard a lot of people say the same thing with amber server.

I would look at setting up ambeserver and analog_bridge locally on a pi and then point the ip address and ports from your VPS to the local analog_bridge setup. That would be more reliable. I think (and I have not done this personally so someone please correct me) that you can setup something like DDNS or duckDNS locally if you have a dynamic IP on your home setup and use the url to point the IP address to your local setup. Re: DStar on DV Switch Mobile
Patrick Perdue
Not in the context of DVSM, but I ran a remote AMBEserver for
Analog_Bridge for a while, ran into some problems and eventually
scrapped it for md380emu, since I didn't care about DStar. My
DStar bridge is strictly done with XLX and a pair of AMBE dongles,
and I don't need outbound connectivity to DStar reflectors in my
setup. At the time, my AMBEserver running on a Pi was a good solid 2 to
3 ms ping from the VPS running DVSwitch. The datacenter was
practically in my backyard. While it did work reliably sometimes,
it would randomly drop, or have huge gaps between audio packets,
so I eventually just gave it up as a bad job. Running
Analog_Bridge and AMBEserver locally, or using the dongle directly
connected to Analog_Bridge through /dev/ttyUSB0 worked fine, but I
always had various problems using AMBEserver remotely with
Analog_Bridge, at least when connecting back to Allstar. The
network path was about as good as I could hope for, considering it
was a remote connection to AMBEserver.

Re: DVSwitch-System-Builder throws up error
You can try to run the script again but I think you will get errors.
I would burn a fresh SD card.

It should be fixed now. You will have to start over from scratch. Sorry I can tell you that the System-Builder is getting a rewrite in the not to distant future. Steve N4IRS

PTT button solution
F1JMJ Joël
Hello,
The DVSWITCH app is great. But there is the problem in the car with the PTT. In many countries, touching the phone while driving is punishable by law. Currently I use a bluetooth button for the PTT which is intended to take a picture with the telephone (code 24), but after a few uses the phone goes into alarm mode and I have to restart the phone. Is there a viable solution to this problem or a real alternative for PTT with a classic mobile phone with a Zello-like PTT button that works well with DVSWITCH ? Thank you for your answers. 73 F1JMJ

Over time we standardized file name locations etc. The .ini files tell you were to find the host files and data files.

Steve,
My bridges have been working fine for a year or more. I have no "/var/lib/mmdvm" directory. I'm guessing you've updated the kit and files are now in different places? David
