While I may be alone, I do not support using a 3rd party service for our forums.

I have since the beginning 'MUTE THIS TOPIC' when the back and forth short messages overload my email.

But never unsubscribe.  And I am subscribed to all forums.

I have not wanted to move this traffic to private e-mail since the purpose of groups.io is to provide a place where people can find similar issues and resolve them. Going to private e-mail removes the resolution from the forum.

So, we are going to try something different. We have a Telegram group setup Telegram to try to move some of the quick back and forth off groups.io. I will post the resolution on groups.io once we have a resolution.  To keep from having the Telegram room spammed by bots and people, we have implemented a system where you must verify you are a ham to join the room. I installed it on Ubuntu and ran into the same problem. This should help with mint.

If you’re using a recent version of Debian or Ubuntu Linux, you can install Beautiful Soup with the system package manager:

$ apt-get install python-bs4 (for Python 2)

$ apt-get install python3-bs4 (for Python 3)

Hi Ken,
Thanks for another reply.  I've looked for a way to make ALSA my default rather than Pulse and not found it.  Sometimes looking for Web help on Linux is painful.  You get lots of different suggestions, some involving pages of code, conflicting suggestions, or lots of stuff that others say doesn't work, etc.  I just don't know enough about Linux to figure out what I should be doing.  However, I have read Steve's message about hUC running through HTML.  That seems like it's going to be the path of the least resistance for now.  Hurrah to Steve N4IRS and others that are putting all this wonderful software together.

I also have been looking inside pyUC.py for an answer.  There seems to be an answer somewhere in their code.   I don't know if you've ventured inside that one or the pyUC.ini file.  The comments following the code are very well documented and are clear enough to understand.  What I'd really like to do is take a look inside the installed 'python-pyaudio' file, but I couldn't find where it is hidden.

Oh well, I'm waiting for the hUC.  Thanks for your help.

Re: Update and upgrade errors

You can try this:
BACKUP your /opt/MMDVM_Bridge directory and your /opt/Quantar_Bridge directory.
apt remove MMDVM_Bridge
apt install -f
apt install mmdvm-bridge
copy your the MMDVM_Bridge.ini and DVSwitch.ini from your backup to /opt/MMDVM_Bridge
restart MMDVM_Bridge

I answered you days ago. I can continue to try to help fix your install or you archive your QB and MB configs and use the current install process. From that point forward, upgrade will be apt upgrade.
 Though I don't see my answer. Sorry.

HTML client and Analog Reflector release information

Steve N4IRS

Edited

Over the past few months we have been working on the release of the HTML client (hUC) for DVSwitch. This is new server component called Analog_Reflector (AR). The purpose of AR is to server the HTML client to users connecting to the server. AR also provides a number of feature for people building bridges Most of the basic features are covered in my post  <https://dvswitch.groups.io/g/main/message/8120>

On Monday March 1st we will make available the Analog_Reflector Release Candidate 1. Though we have had a number of people and groups testing AR, we feel it's time to broaden the base of users testing AR. We expect some issues to arise. We also expect people will try to use AR in a way we had not thought of. We welcome comments and bug reports. That is the purpose of a Release Candidate. I do not know what platforms will be initially supported. That is being worked on now. We do not know how many release candidates there will be before full release. That will depend on the feedback and any issues we observe. The releae candidate will have all features available to be configured.

Between now and Monday we want to start the process of giving users access to a way to sample the features of AR and hUC. We have setup a publicly accessible installation so that any user can try things out. This install will allow anyone to connect to the server and look at the features. You can listen to traffic happening on the reflector in real time. The server is configured for DMR, D-Star, YSF, P25 and AllStar. All digital modes are TG and Master agile. The AllStar Mode is connected to AllStarLink node 2150. That node can be connected to any active AllStar node. By design, this is a shared resource, If I change modes to DMR and change to TG 3166, all connected clients are also connected DMR 3166. If you login with your callsign, you can look around, you can try some things out. What you CAN'T do is transmit and tune. You are a guest. A basic rule of thumb is, if the button is greyed out, it is not available to a guest.

We have setup yet another sub group for discussion <https://dvswitch.groups.io/g/Analog-Reflector>

OK, so you have read all the stuff above, where is it?  <https://allstar.dvswitch.org> When you first connect, you will be asked for your callsign. Since you do not have an account on the server, you will not be asked for a password. In the top right hand corner you will see:

Click on the icon to enable audio. The icon will change to

You are in and listening. There are about a half dozen authenticated users, we will try to move around to demo different modes etc. One thing you can do is send a test to everybody currently connected to the reflector. Go to the Manage tab. You will see the Text Message button. Click on the button and type your message. You can request someone change to a mode and TG. If someone is available they can change modes and TG for you.

One other area of interest is the current documentation. The first entry on the support tab will open a PDF with the current documentation.

Kick the tires, comment in the AR subgroup. Have fun.

For DVSwitch,
Steve N4IRS

Re: pyUC Client Installation issue

HI Jerry,

I believe ALSA comes standard on all release of Linux.  It was the standard audio interface before Pulse.  Try disabling Pulse and see if that works.  Hopefully, your other audio programs aren't using it.

pyUC is my go to client.  However, if you can't get it to run, don't fret.  The boys are close to releasing hUC which is the HTML version.  Runs on all browsers on all platforms (including ios!). The scheduled release date is early March so keep on I on this forum.
