Bridge (Crosslink-Transcoding) between XLX reflector and DMR TG BrandMeister #brandmeister

Al Mesa

Good morning:
I am looking for assistance with the following questions:

1. With the following scheme, can I make a bridge (crosslink or transcondig) between my xlx reflector and a BrandMeister TG?:

 D-Star <---> ircDDBGateway <---> MMDVM_Bridge <---> Analog_Bridge_DSTAR <---> Analog_Bridge_DMR <---> MMDVM_Bridge <---> DMR.

 2. If the answer is yes, may I install everything in the same ubuntu pc and also install my two ThumDV to be able to complete the transcoding process?

Thank you.

Re: How to link between a Quantar on P25 to BM DMR?

Hi Steve,

So I think I set must of the system, but I am missing some port links that I can find the propper file to set them. Here are my settings for the diffrent files (Data that did not changed or is not relevant is not posted). The intention for testing is to use TG 5995 on a Quantar repeater using Quantra_Bridge and pass it to BrandMeister TG 334105. Everything is set on the same Raspberry Pi.

To build a bridge between DMR and P25 you will need to transcode P25 <-> DMR. A transcoder requires 2 instances of Analog_Bridge. The system will look like this:

P25Reflector <-> P25Gateway <-> MMDVM_Bridge <-> Analog_Bridge <-> Analog_Bridge <-> MMDVM_Bridge <-> BrandMeister.

The P25Reflector is TG 334015
MMDVM_Bridge can do DMR and P25 at the same time so uyou will need only one instance
The easiest way to run 2 instances of Analog_Bridge is to have 2 .ini files. Copy the default Analog_Bridge.ini to Analog_Bridge_P25.ini and Analog_Bridge_DMR.ini
Edit each copy to configure for the mode and run the program with the name of the config file. ./Analog_Bridge Analog_Bridge_DMR.ini

These are very broad strokes. I suggest you build from the outside in.

You can control the audio levels in Analog_bridge.ini In the [USRP] stanza,setting aslAudio and dmrAudio to AUDIO_UNITY will keep provide no gain or reduction.

If you need to adjust the DMR -> ASL audio, change:
aslAudio = AUDIO_USE_GAIN

agcGain = 1.0
This should be the same level as AUDIO_UNITY

agcGain = 2.0
This should be twice as loud as AUDIO_UNITY

agcGain = 0.5
This should be half as loud as
AUDIO_UNITY

dmrAudio = AUDIO_USE_GAIN

How are you connected to the receiver? Pre-emphasised or de-emphasised? Are you running simplex or duplex? If duplex how does the audio sound out the analog transmitter? If simplex, is it a public node that can connect to another node for a audio report?
If all that is good, look at your audio levels from analog to digital.

Never connect one network to another network.
Always be aware what you are connected to before making another connection.

You look like a clown when you connect to my network and you brought the entire UK with you.

I have started a new topic so that we can discuss the things that people should be aware of BEFORE dropping a bridge into a network. I will move a couple of messages into this topic and mark it sticky.

I try to keep the USA portion of the wiki updated with this.  This is a lot of work. We have always requested they use their dmr id as the talkgroup.

I know I have posted about this somewhere.  I will see if I can pull it up or at least get the wiki updated.

XLX has its own inbuilt ability to connect to other XLX. Or other reflectors, TG's etc. Using interconnects.

Why re-invent the wheel ??

Hi, nobody can point to me ?
How can i configure MMDVM_Bridge.ini (and DVSwitch.ini) to link one side XLX in DEXTRA ? Is it possibile ?
Is it necessary to have also ircddbgateway ?

Thank you
David

Well on the allstar side ulaw codec is probably your best bet to use.  Since you really cant control that across the network makes it hard.  Another issue is when a station on the analog side starts to get white noise it sounds really bad on the conversion to dmr codec.  I have 4 nodes from allstar on my small network and I keep them private due to the codec and noise issue and the other big killer is delay.  Adding the delay makes it difficult and the conversation goes south.  In my opinion if all networks are aware and ok with it then do it.  But if not keep it private.

Is it possible to feed analog_bridge audio directly, or use an SDR's output to feed into the USRP channel driver if app_rpt must be used?

I'm sure there's a method, but before we went too deep down the rabbit hole wondered if anyone else has attempted and/or is currently using it.

It's my experience that the audio is much wider in analog.  The largest issue that I had when setting up analog bridge was getting the levels adjusted correctly in terms of the gain control within analog bridge itself.  Once I was able to get those to a good level it all fell in place and sounds great now, and we are primarily using USBRADIO for all of our ASL nodes.
