Re: Wanting to create an analog to digital interface using Dv-Switch, Draws Board and DV3000Usb

Hi Heiko

That is very good information, At this point in the project all I have is the idea and no plan,
I have no objections to using the D2FET board, I would prefer to run it all on a pi or similar board. Please keep me tuned on the status of the board, In the mean time It looks like the other components will be the same? Dv_Switch Analog_Bridge and the others will still be in play.

I'm familiar with Florians boards and have a few in use.

Considering  now using both Draws and Florians  board and compare ! Since I have the draws I will start there and wait for more on the other.

Rick/n9umj

Looking forward to more information

I have modified the USRPAudio.py with some things for input and output at GPIO of Pi - but it's not ready yet, my work is in progress. But basic things work now.

Linking BM talkgroup to XXL server.

Pierre Martel

I am one of the 4 admins of the canadian BM master.

I had a request to link 2 talkgroup to an xlx server.

We already have a link to ta ysf/fusion room and the project would reunite all of the Quebec province for digitals nets and some locals repeaters to a cluster inside BM.

So if anyone wonder if what I will be doing is ok, yup I have the ok to do it.

What would be the best way to acheive this? I have a nice connection to the internet 400/50 And I also have a /26 of 44net ip adress to run the server ( they are reachable from non 44 ip adress. )

I dont want to be spoon feed, just the best route to do it.

Hi Steve

Creating a stand alone is perfectly fine!  What files are on the group site and where can the other be obtained,
Yes I'm ready to get my hands dirty , work outside of the box, push the envelope and all of the other cliche'
This isn't my first boy/girl dance and even though I may not be proficient in all of areas I'llI need , I make up in determination  error and smoke.
On the hardware side I should have everything I need., The Python will be a learning curve but, still nothing  I can't get through

I've thought the Draws board would make a good interface since I saw it , but not sure what it would take to put it all together .
I'll setup a test repeater at my shack and use it for the testing.

are all of these available on this group? USRP_Audio <-> Analog_Bridge <-> MMDVM_Bridge <-> DMR Network
I'm assuming this can all be done on Ubuntu ,

Thank You for the support and direction.Looking forward to the challenge! and support!

I don't think you will be able to use your existing bridge because you will need exclusive use of Analog_Bridge. Your flow will look something like this:
Repeater <-> Draws <-> USRP_Audio <-> Analog_Bridge <-> MMDVM_Bridge <-> DMR Network

USRP_Audio will need to sense COS from the repeater and send PTT to the repeater. This is going to take some modifications to USRP_Audio which is why in Python  As you can see this is not going to be a plug and play solution. The question is do you want to get your fingers dirty.

Re: Dstar REFXXXC TO XLXXXXC

Steve N4IRS

I believe you are correct. The bridge will present the metadata it receives from XLX to REF. If the callsign is not in USTRUST, REF will not pass the traffic.

As an aside and hopefully not beat a dead horse here, this sort of thing may be easier to do using existing linking, either through G2 or dPlus, since XLX and REF are both DStar reflectors, anyway.

But as mentioned above by Ben - this may not be helpful as REF reflectors use USTRUST to validate callsigns, whereas XLX does not require it. So, this may be seen as a way of subverting authentication controls on REF reflectors and be considered a no-no. But it does beg the question shouldn't the REF side ignore a non-registered callsign? Having not tested this myself, I can only speculate.

Yeah, this goes back on the "just because you can, does it mean you should?" territory. Though if I'm not mistaken, if the REF reflector doesn't have a callsign registered, shouldn't it ignore it regardless on if it comes across an XLX reflector or not?

I'm going to edit this message to clarify the statement I made. If you have access to an REF reflector already, then use the REF reflector. Don't add in another network to an existing established network, especially those that have high rates of bureaucracy, and especially if that sort of activity may be frowned upon.

XLX is intended as a multiprotocol DStar reflector, which does have facilities to transcode other AMBE protocols into it. This means, that other protocol users (i.e. DMR, YSF, P25, NXDN) can participate in QSOs with DStar users, on that Network.

If the intention is for mixing other protocols into an existing Network (in this case, DStar / REF) then you may want to get clearance from those that run that particular Network first. This may or may not be acceptable and you should ask before doing.

Just my two cents.

Re: Dstar REFXXXC TO XLXXXXC

Ben Fogt

The problem I forsee, is that REF check the TRUST server for access, whereas XLX does not. This would offer a gateway (possibly) for others who arent registered to get on REF and I dont think that is something they want. Just food for thought.
