enabling an AMBE dongle

Derek William Haden

Edited

I have the ea5gvk img on a Rpi and it's working fine.
The DMR audio is OK, DStar audio is unreadable, so I bought a NWD usb dongle. lsusb shows the device, and ttyUSB0 is in /dev
Latency timer comes back as 1. I have gone into the menu settings and selected the AMBE usb option under emulation. However the audio is still
unreadable, and it does not seem to have improved on DMR. I think there are some settings in Analog_Bridge.ini that may have some bearing on this, but I just can't figure it out. Can anyone help? Power supply is a 2.5 amp device so plenty of juice.

Derek,
I don't know what menu you are using. I have to assume you are using the DVlink image. I can't help you with that.
For AB, below are the settings for Analog_Bridge.ini Even though you are running a 2.5 amp PS, I suggest you run AMBEtest4.py to verify correct operation of the DV3000.

[DV3000]
; address = 127.0.0.1                   ; IP address of AMBEServer
; rxPort = 2460                         ; Port of AMBEServer
address = /dev/ttyUSB0                  ; Device of DV3000U on this machine
baud = 460800                           ; Baud rate of the dongle (230400 or 460800)
serial = true                           ; Use serial=true for direct connect or serial=false for AMBEServer

Here's the result from the ambe test
>>> %Run AMBEtest4.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/pi/Desktop/AMBEtest4.py", line 72
print 'Error, AMBE header was corrupt'.

Does this mean it's no good?
I bought it used.

Steve N4IRS

What options did you use to with AMBEtest4? What was the command line?

That may be the problem, I just ran it from the desktop

Steve N4IRS

python AMBEtest4.py -n -v -e -s /dev/ttyUSB0

What options do I need?

Derek William Haden

Here's what I get when I run this

-----------------------
Setting serial port

Serial port parameters:

Port name: /dev/ttyUSB0

Baudrate: 460800

Byte size: 8

Parity: N

Stop bits: 1

Xon Xoff: False

RTS/CTS: False

DST/DTR: False

*********************

Testing Reset DV3000

Error, AMBE header was corrupt
-----------------------------
So looks like I have been sold a lemon.

Steve N4IRS

Try it without the -n option. May be a older DV3000.
Is something else using /dev/ttyUSB0? AMBEServer?

Success

Testing Encode PCM
Test result: Success (61000b010148d58ac75557271ec97f)
Error count =  0

Steve N4IRS

Without -n ?

Yes without the -n switch

Steve N4IRS

The set:
baud = 230400

in AB.ini

Will do, let you know in a few moments.

Derek William Haden

I am in the dubious position of not really knowing if it's working or not.

I would have expected some activity on the dongle lights, which I am not, and the audio is still very poor.

OK thanks for the help Steve, I think I am going to cut my losses and just stick to DMR.

At least that works.

Steve N4IRS

Derek,
Show me the complete startup of Analog_Bridge.

Sorry, how do I do that?

Steve N4IRS

stop Analog_Bridge
delete /var/log/dvswitch/Analog_Bridge.log
start Analog_Bridge

post the contents of /var/log/dvswitch/Analog_Bridge.log
